Broj nestalih nakon snažnog potresa koji je na Novu godinu pogodio zapadnu obalu Japana u petak se popeo na oko 200, a sada je potvrđeno da su 94 osobe preminule, izvijestili su japanski mediji.

Vlada je udvostručila broj vojnika raspoređenih u području katastrofe na 4600 za podršku hitnim službama, navodi se u izvješćima. Četiri dana nakon potresa, otkucavaju sati u potrazi za preživjelima. U četvrtak je broj preminulih iznosio gotovo 80.

Brda ruševina, oštećene ceste, klizišta i naknadni potresi i dalje ometaju napore spasilačkih timova. U prefekturi Ishikawa, najteže pogođenoj, najmanje 700 ljudi i dalje je odsječeno od vanjskog svijeta.

Novinska agencija Kyodo izvijestila je da je oko 30.000 kućanstava ostalo bez struje, a 80.000 kućanstava bez vode. Prema lokalnim vlastima, oko 33.000 ljudi još mora ostati u stotinama hitnih skloništa.
