Izraelci su pozvani na "opći štrajk" u ponedjeljak kako bi prisilili vladu da postigne sporazum o oslobađanju talaca iz Gaze, nakon što je vojska otkrila šest tijela, a stanovnici zemlje u nedjelju navečer izašli su na prosvjede u velikom broju. Od 6 sati ujutro (03,00 GMT) u ponedjeljak, "cijela će izraelska ekonomija biti u općem štrajku", rekao je u nedjelju čelnik Histadruta, utjecajne izraelske sindikalne središnjice, Arnon Bar-David, jer "mora doći kraj ovom napuštanju talaca”. "U 8 ujutro zračna luka će biti zatvorena, uzlijetanja i slijetanja će prestati", rekao je Histadrut u priopćenju za javnost.

U nedjelju su deseci tisuća Izraelaca prosvjedovali u nekoliko gradova tražeći sporazum o oslobađanju talaca. U Tel Avivu prosvjednici su blokirali autocestu. Do tih je prosvjeda došlo nakon što je izraelska vojska u nedjelju objavila da je otkrila tijela šest talaca u Pojasu Gaze.

Kako navodi BBC, bijes prosvjednika usmjeren je na vladu premijera Benjamina Netanyahua koji je optužen da blokira prekid vatre i sporazum o oslobađanju talaca. Na sinoćnjim prosvjedima skandiralo se "ubojica". Netanyahu odbacuje optužbe i kaže da je Hamas taj koji blokira dogovor. 

"Nadamo se da će se oni koji donose odluke probuditi", rekao je Eli Shtivi, čiji je sin Idan trenutačno talac u Gazi. "Nemamo više vremena."

Premijer Benjamin Netanyahu, pod sve većim pritiskom da postigne dogovor o taocima nakon mjeseci zastoja, zaprijetio je Hamasu u nedjelju da će "poravnati račune". Prema izraelskom ministarstvu zdravstva, obdukcija provedena na tijelima šest talaca otkriva da su ubijeni "iz neposredne blizine", "između četvrtka i petka ujutro".

No, prema pripadniku Hamasa koji je želio ostati anoniman, oni su "ubijeni hicima i bombardiranjem izraelskih okupatora", a neki od njih su bili na "popisu talaca koje treba osloboditi, a koji je Hamas odobrio".
