Prosvjedi, sukobi i krvoproliće na ulicama glavnog grada Bangladeša, Dhake, u kojima je do sada ubijeno više od 150 ljudi, a ranjeno nekoliko stotina, izbili su zbog bijesa studenata protiv novih kvota za državna radna mjesta koje uključuju 30 posto za obitelji onih koji su se borili za neovisnost od Pakistana. Ta je mjera otvorila stare i osjetljive političke podjele između onih koji su se 1971. borili za neovisnost Bangladeša od Pakistana i onih koji su optuženi za suradnju s Islamabadom, a sve je kulminiralo zbog užasne ekonomske situacije.

Policija je proteklih dana koristila suzavac i šok-granate kako bi rastjerala prosvjednike. Prosvjednici su se sukobljavali sa sigurnosnim snagama, tukli ih letvama, bacali cigle i palili vozila. Snage sigurnosti optužene su za uporabu prekomjerne sile protiv studenata prosvjednika. Policija je tijekom nereda uhitila više od tisuću ljudi, uključujući nekoliko visokih oporbenih čelnika.

S obzirom na to da broj mrtvih raste, a policija ne uspijeva obuzdati nasilne prosvjede, vlada premijerke Sheikh Hasine Wajed uvela je nacionalni policijski sat i rasporedila vojsku, a ograničila je i korištenje interneta. Ljudi imaju dva sata da odu u trgovine i obave ono što im je nužno. Prosvjede, koji su najveći otkako je Hasina Wajed ove godine osvojila četvrti uzastopni mandat, potaknula je i visoka nezaposlenost među mladima, koji čine gotovo petinu od 170 milijuna stanovnika, kao i velika inflacija. Premijerka Hasina Wajed okrivila je svoje političke protivnike za krvoproliće u zemlji dodajući da je bila prisiljena uvesti policijski sat. "Ukinut ćemo policijski sat kada dođe do poboljšanja situacije", rekla je.

Vrhovni sud ukinuo je većinu kvota za državna radna mjesta, što je bio ključni zahtjev prosvjednika. Prosvjedi su se pretvorili u jednu od najkrvavijih epizoda u novijoj povijesti Bangladeša, a bilo je i poziva premijerki da podnese ostavku. Premijerka je okrivila glavnu oporbenu Bangladešku nacionalističku stranku i Jamaat-eIslami i njihova studentska krila za nasilje, rekavši da će njezina vlada raditi na "gušenju prosvjeda i stvaranju boljeg okruženja".

VEZANI ČLANCI:

Bangladeš ima složenu političku povijest obilježenu sukobima između glavnih političkih stranaka, Awami League (AL) i Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). Ovi sukobi često dovode do političke nestabilnosti, štrajkova i prosvjeda, što utječe na učinkovito upravljanje zemljom. Od stjecanja neovisnosti 1971. godine Bangladeš je prošao kroz razdoblja političke nestabilnosti, vojnih udara i ekonomske borbe, što je znatno utjecalo na razvoj zemlje i razinu siromaštva. Rani poslijeratni period bio je obilježen političkom i ekonomskom krizom.

Prvi predsjednik, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, uveo je socijalističke politike i jednopartijski sustav, što je izazvalo nezadovoljstvo i političke sukobe. Ubijen je u vojnom udaru 1975. godine, što je dovelo do razdoblja vojne vladavine. Generali Ziaur Rahman i Hossain Mohammad Ershad dominirali su političkom scenom tijekom 1970-ih i 1980-ih godina, uvodeći vojnu diktaturu. Demokracija je obnovljena 1991. godine, nakon masovnih prosvjeda i ostavke Ershada.

Od tada, političkim krajolikom dominiraju dvije glavne stranke AL i BNP. Politička borba između AL-a, predvođena Sheikh Hasinom, kćeri Sheikha Mujibura Rahmana, i BNP-a, koji je vodila Khaleda Zia, udovica Ziaura Rahmana, često je bila žestoka i nasilna. Ova politička nestabilnost dovela je do čestih štrajkova, prosvjeda i ekonomskih poremećaja, dodatno pogoršavajući siromaštvo u zemlji.
