Oko 500 policajaca pretreslo je u Hong Kongu urede prodemokratskog lista Apple Daily, tvrdeći da su njegova izvješća kršila zakon o nacionalnoj sigurnosti, javlja u četvrtak BBC.

Policija je također uhitila glavnog urednika i još četvoricu dužnosnika lista. Također je zamrznuto 2,3 milijuna američkih dolara imovine u vlasništvu tri tvrtke povezane s Apple Dailyjem, koji je kritičan prema vodstvu kontinentalne Kine.

Na brifingu za novinare policija je priopćila da je od 2019. Apple Daily objavio više od 30 članaka koji pozivaju zemlje da uvedu sankcije protiv Hong Konga i kontinentalne Kine. Deseci istaknutih aktivista uhićeni su od uvođenja zakona o nacionalnoj sigurnosti prošle godine.

List je preko svoje stranice na Facebooku uživo objavio snimke pretresa.

Policija je u priopćenju navela da je provela akciju pretraživanja u medijskoj tvrtki, dodajući da su imali nalog 'pretražiti i zaplijeniti novinarski materijal'. Policija je odvojeno bila u domovima glavnog urednika i izdavača te ih je uhitila.

Ovo je drugi pretres koji se dogodio u prostorijama Apple Dailya u manje od godinu dana - u pretresu prošlog kolovoza uhićeno je 10 osoba.
